The Bitterness Problem

I am having a hard time focusing on the negative without myself turning negative. Sometimes I can do this; right now I haven’t been able to. I find myself getting angry.

This is unfortunately a problem not just for me, but for the very concept of paying attention to what’s wrong in the world. Right now it feels like it has poisoned debate in the US; the so-called culture wars have never been so tense before – at least not in my lifetime. And yet I get people angry with me from both sides of the political spectrum (which can feel very isolating)…

I don’t have any answers, but it seems to me that this problem is itself a problem worth watching. How does one identify what is wrong, and needs to be changed, without falling into the trap of bitterness?
